Serenity = Home

So this week the prompts for me were actually pretty easy- especially thinking about my parts of the day that were serene as I spent most of this week at home in little Jersey. Now that I don't live in Jersey and I work and live in London when I go back to my little island it's lovely serene, quiet and a real chance for me to recharge my batteries.
So my real moments of serenity this week were enjoying island life and taking little Pearl for a walk through the country lanes and seeing views like I used for the back drop of my page. I also had a go at paper rolling as also included in the prompt which has given a nice effect to the page. I would like to cover a little more but I ran out of time between coming back to London, catching up at work and posting for this momentous Get Messy Thursday occasion.

For the next prompt I had to choose someone who was serene, I was going to opt for my Dad as he's so laid back! Instead I cheated bit and chose Pearl, although my little terrier is not the most serene dog at times, I'm not sure how you couldn't look at the below picture and not see how peaceful this dog is! The most important reason I chose Pearl was because she makes me feel serene when I'm with her. It's true what they say about stress relief from patting a dog because it's so true.

My next instalment of Make your mark August, which I am so enjoying!! I am also trying to get creative with the prompts and not do something that is obvious. I am also thinking about going the 30 Lists for September...if anyone reading this is part of that group, please let me know what you think.

You create your own calm

These Thursdays sure fly by! So this week the first prompt was to think of a mission statement based on a shakespeare quote. So this got me thinking what is my mission statement to the world? I had lots of ideas around clothes, fashion and music but it all came back to the below quote. This quote is something that has stuck with me ever since I first heard it. "No one looks back on their life and remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep" is one of the best quotes I've heard and I can relate to it so much. I am constantly fighting an internal battle with myself to stay out and party or go to bed? Both things I love doing- my favourite hobby is sleepy after all. So when I'm asked to go out on a work night knowing full well I have to be up early the next morning and that it will be hard with a hangover I remember this simple quote and think what the hell! Lucky I work in broadcast anyway where no one tends to notice/care if i'm hungover.

For the art part of my page I decided to try something a bit different- normally all my quotes and art tie in together but with this page I decided to do two completely different things that don't really relate.

As you can see I went for a lilac theme this week! Below is me and lots of thoughts that stop me sometimes reaching my serenity. For this prompt I did my research for a technique that someone else in the community used. I used Sabine's washi tape tutorial or inspiration (I couldn't find her blog to link her in, so if anyone reading knows it, please let me know.) Sabine's tutorial was around how to make lettering from washi tape- I was all set to try this when one of her pictures gave me an idea. It was one were she had lots of washi tape layered on one and other, I decided that rather than cut letters in I would paint over it and then remove the washi to create white lines.

And then there was calm...

And here we are again for another Get Messy Thursday, they come around quick!! So I'll crack on as there's lots to share today.
So first off What's my Serenity? I had lots of ideas for this and lots of aspects I wanted to include and I was overwhelming myself as bit trying to incorporate all these different things, so what did I turn to while I thought through my serenity....a cup of tea. That's when I thought why am I over complicating this when the answer is simple.

You can see the below very well but it is an excerpt from the dictionary with the entry for serenity. I wasn't sure where I was going with this page and once I did it had a play with some filters and I actually like it a lot more with this negative filter added.

Make your mark August

This August I've also decided to take part in the Make you mark August doodle prompts- I did try in June but only managed to draw an ice lolly, this month I will commit. I have managed to catch up and below is a round up of days one to six. If you fancy a doodle please follow along it's actually very fun!

1. Broken Lines

2. Lavender

3. Watermelon

4. Lyrics

5. Polka dots

7. Happiness is...

Along with my Get Messy Thursday contributions I will do a round up of my Make your Mark August doodles.

Welcome to Serenity

Hi all, welcome to the season of serenity!
This season ideal for me at the moment as I'm not feeling serene at all! so on to the art, and my simple answer to what I throw myself into when I need a safe place. There is obviously doing the art journal stuff, but I mostly to go to my first love which is music to dance it out!
My inner goddess, after doing the extensive online test came out as Artemis the greek goddess of hunting, forests, hills, the moon and archery. Some of her qualities I did agree with- others not so much!

After doing some research on goddesses, I came across norse folklore surrounding the Valkyries- the group of goddesses of battle who ultimately picked how deserved to live or die in battle. If you've read my testimonial on Get Messy you may know work for me has been a bit tough lately and I have been delivering a lot of bad news about people's jobs- so I can identify with a valkyrie because in some way I'm part of choosing someone's fate.

Also checkout my attempt at copying the cool art journal photography!

My Ideal Adventure

Sorry again I'm a bit late with the Thursday sharing!, so here it is!

One of the prompts this week was to think of the place you would take your up balloon, so at first I started thinking of places around the world and then thought it doesn't need to be in this world and where would I like to go out of this world and it has to be OZ!

Here is my take on my past which is in little Jersey and present in London and my future which I would like to be in New York.

Marbling Tutorial with shaving foam and food colouring

As promised here is my marbling tutorial as posted on Get Messy a few weeks ago.

Get Messy (please do not pin)
What you will need:
  • Shaving foam
  • Food Colouring
  • Thick paper/card
  • Paper towels
  • A ruler
  • A baking dish/wash basin
  • Paint brush/ or something with a pointed end.
Get Messy (please do not pin)
Start off by filling your baking tray/wash basin with lots of shaving foam, letting it expand. Next put in your food colouring, I used the end of a paintbrush to draw the swirly patterns but I have read online that some people like to use a spatula or a toothpick. Careful not to over mix…just yet! I like using pink and blue because once I’ve made enough paper I over mix to get a nice lilac swirl.

Place the card into the basin, gently press on the paper, have a little peek to make sure you have all of the underside of the paper covered. Don’t leave the paper too long otherwise it’ll get all soggy and wet.

Now for the messy part- peel the paper away, placing it on top of a paper towel or surface you don’t mind getting shaving foam on. Take your ruler and scrape away the shaving cream and hey presto! You have a beautiful marbled piece of paper; just leave to dry and if you find your paper is a bit wrinkled just put it under some heavy books.

Have a play around with how much food colouring you add and how much you mix things up, by playing around with marbling I have found lots of cool patterns. I have also started to experiment with different types of paper, some worked great some not so much.
