What's this? There's magic everywhere....

And so we come to the end of magic, and with the end of magic for now is my end of being spooky. It is time to try something different next season- I'm sure I'll come back to being spooky as if you couldn't tell naturally a bit dark.

The nightmare before Christmas hill is about as Christmassy I got in my altered book.

I still have some pages to finish so I'm sure they'll be making an appearance from time to time. I still have 100 more pages to fill!

I used some quotes from American horror story as there is some great creepy quotes that various characters use.

For a spell that can't be broken, one drop should be enough

My inspiration is back for all things dark! After discuss with a few others who wanted to come over to the darkish, we decided our themes this week would revolved around The Labyrinth, voodoo and Anne Rice (vampire prairie for those not into Anne Rice). I know we're a cheerful bunch.

First up my Anne Rice page- the quote taken from Interview with a vampire. This page was the 100th in my altered book, so lets all take a minute to celebrate that I have managed to get 100 pages out of being all dark and twisty. The other page is my voodoo using poetry from Tim Burton's 'Voodoo Girl' If you haven't read any of Tim Burton's poetry admired his illustrations then you have to get over to pinterest...well after you have read my blog post.

Next up is my double page to The Labyrinth and as you can see the tin foil has made another appearance.

I did show this page last week- there is a reason I am doing so again and it's to show you in some kind of order how I made my first digital collage. I want you to focus on the right page with the Sia lyrics.

This unintensionally became my background for my digital piece. It just so happened I had been playing around with some different filters on an app and this cool kaleidoscope effect that looks a bit like a scarf pattern.

Ta-dah! Here is the finished product- I have gone for a witchy theme, using a poem about the Salem witch trials.

Lets hope it's the beginning of many more digital collages.

Lots of love,

LaurenPearl

Woodland Zine

I can finally let the secret out- we zinned one the head ziners. I was so excited to be asked to be a part of making the lovely Julia (Jules +Tea) a woodland zine!! Myself along with Katie, Vanessa and Torrie got our superpowers together to collaborate on this lovely zine.
I speak to Julia quite a lot and something like this was completely eating away at me- especially when she asked me to take part in another top secret project.
This little blog started life with Katie who build this lovely little Zine, I was the last in the pit stops. I must admit seeing this nearly complete zine I was a bit intimidated- what if I ruined it?

I highjacked the page to the left, Katie covered it in some nice paper and washi tape- as I recently acquired some bear like tape I had to add it and then thought this quote from 'Where the wild things are" was a perfect fit for the beginning.

This is mine on the right- random I know. I want my hat back is a children's book that has been recently made in to a show in London, where the bear is search through the forest for his missing hat. I have had this leaflet for a while and wasn't really sure what to do with it, until the woodland zine came along!

The left is mine, I used tissue paper from Tiger as a background and decided to use this quote from 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl. At first I couldn't get my handwriting to show up on this paper, so I opted to sit and cut out letters from a ton of magazines. To complete a nice little wooden fox

This double spread is all about the woods- remember the cartoon 'The animals of Farthing Wood'? I kept thinking about this as I drew. A little bit of everything on this page marbled paper, some stamps, a few markers and some foam animals- because why not.

The hipster fox is by far my favourite page I created, I couldn't not include it to Julia who's spirit animal is clearly a fox. I used some branch paper background and use lyrics from Foals 'Out of the Woods' to complete.

Loved being part of the zine crew and hope I'm asked again to contribute <3.

Go check out these amazing arty ladies now:

Your fate is in your hands....

So the season of magic hasn't been very magical for me. I have been suffering from an inspiration block- whether it was the sickness that sucked it out of me or the fact I'm spending most of my life studying. I don't know I'm not as enthusiastic about my work this time around.

So in failure of what to do- I went back to my safe place, practise fancy handwriting to song lyrics.

Why is the raven like a writing desk?

Hi all, so I was one of the unfortunates that got struck down by that awful bug going around. Hence why I have one page to show and it's posted really late!

This week I am going to try and catch up with everything I have missed and more!

Lots of love,
