Welcome to Serenity

Hi all, welcome to the season of serenity!
This season ideal for me at the moment as I'm not feeling serene at all! so on to the art, and my simple answer to what I throw myself into when I need a safe place. There is obviously doing the art journal stuff, but I mostly to go to my first love which is music to dance it out!
My inner goddess, after doing the extensive online test came out as Artemis the greek goddess of hunting, forests, hills, the moon and archery. Some of her qualities I did agree with- others not so much!

After doing some research on goddesses, I came across norse folklore surrounding the Valkyries- the group of goddesses of battle who ultimately picked how deserved to live or die in battle. If you've read my testimonial on Get Messy you may know work for me has been a bit tough lately and I have been delivering a lot of bad news about people's jobs- so I can identify with a valkyrie because in some way I'm part of choosing someone's fate.

Also checkout my attempt at copying the cool art journal photography!

My Ideal Adventure

Sorry again I'm a bit late with the Thursday sharing!, so here it is!

One of the prompts this week was to think of the place you would take your up balloon, so at first I started thinking of places around the world and then thought it doesn't need to be in this world and where would I like to go out of this world and it has to be OZ!

Here is my take on my past which is in little Jersey and present in London and my future which I would like to be in New York.

Marbling Tutorial with shaving foam and food colouring

As promised here is my marbling tutorial as posted on Get Messy a few weeks ago.

Get Messy (please do not pin)
What you will need:
  • Shaving foam
  • Food Colouring
  • Thick paper/card
  • Paper towels
  • A ruler
  • A baking dish/wash basin
  • Paint brush/ or something with a pointed end.
Get Messy (please do not pin)
Start off by filling your baking tray/wash basin with lots of shaving foam, letting it expand. Next put in your food colouring, I used the end of a paintbrush to draw the swirly patterns but I have read online that some people like to use a spatula or a toothpick. Careful not to over mix…just yet! I like using pink and blue because once I’ve made enough paper I over mix to get a nice lilac swirl.

Place the card into the basin, gently press on the paper, have a little peek to make sure you have all of the underside of the paper covered. Don’t leave the paper too long otherwise it’ll get all soggy and wet.

Now for the messy part- peel the paper away, placing it on top of a paper towel or surface you don’t mind getting shaving foam on. Take your ruler and scrape away the shaving cream and hey presto! You have a beautiful marbled piece of paper; just leave to dry and if you find your paper is a bit wrinkled just put it under some heavy books.

Have a play around with how much food colouring you add and how much you mix things up, by playing around with marbling I have found lots of cool patterns. I have also started to experiment with different types of paper, some worked great some not so much.

And then I realised that adventures are the best ways to learn

Oops sorry missed my Thursday deadline, in fairness I did post on instagram what I created. So if your a member of Get Messy you may have seen that I did a marbling tutorial! I'm going to post it here later this week as it's so much fun and looks so pretty!

So here's my take on the prompts, as you will see I have opted for of a hand drawn/writing approach this week.

My perfect day.....

My bucket list- as you can see lots and lots to still to tick off.

Below, I had a go at Caylee's abstract painting on some sheet music, I left it over night as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it and hey presto, free download from Papernerd which allowed me to put together some words that meant something to me.

Lastly, if you follow some of my art you will know that I love doilies. For the below effect I painting over the doilies to get this awesome effect.
